Nollywood: Nigeria's film industry

Nollywood is Nigeria’s Hollywood. Or, we should say, Nigeria’s Bollywood. Surprisingly the lesser heard-of Nollywood is actually one of the biggest industries on earth. Not only that, but it has also surpassed Hollywood in the number of titles released per year. It comes in at second place after Bollywood. Hollywood is at number three.

The industry is not fledgling, but actually very well-established and releases movies all over Africa. All of them are straight-to-video, but the format hasn’t stopped this industry from releasing 872 movies last year. that’s 387 more titles than the US.

44% of the movies are made in English, which is why the industry is booming. It is estimated that the film industry is worth $250 million in Nigeria. The quality of films might not be up to par to both Hollywood and Bollywood, but they’re nascent movie-makers. I want to watch one. Any recommendations?
